Tonnage is the headline number on a hydraulic shop press, but three other figures decide whether the press actually fits your work: the working range, the table width, and the frame type. Here is how to read all four, using the Zhida range from 6 ton to 100 ton as the reference.

A useful rule of thumb: size the press at roughly 1.5 to 2 times the force you expect the job to need. Running a press at its rated limit every day is the fastest way to spread a frame.
The working range tells you the tallest workpiece that fits between ram and table.
230-380 mm - short-stroke bench presses: ZD06061 (0-230 mm), ZD07101Y (380 mm)
700-980 mm - general purpose: ZD06121-C (0-710 mm), ZD07103 (0-980 mm)
1000 mm and above - tall assemblies: ZD07202 (0-1030 mm), ZD07302 (0-1070 mm), ZD07502AQY (0-1100 mm)
Table width sets the maximum width of both the workpiece and any pressing fixture you need to place under it. In the Zhida range the progression is 315-400 mm on the 6-12 ton presses, 500 mm at 20 ton, 530 mm at 30 ton, 590 mm at 40 ton, 615 mm at 50 ton, and 800 to 1050 mm on the 75 and 100 ton machines. Professional frames quote a second figure - 530 x 142 mm, or 1050 x 280 mm - which is the depth of the bed channel.
Economic (ZD06 series) - light-duty frames, 6-30 ton, lowest cost.
CE standard (ZD07 series) - 4-50 ton, the general workshop range, including the ZD07202Q and ZD07502Q.
Professional (ZD07Y / AQY) - heavier frames with deeper beds, 4-100 ton, up to the ZD07100DY-M at 100 ton.
Professional welded (ZD075Y) - welded frames for repeated heavy pressing at 20-50 ton: ZD07205Y, ZD07305Y.
Shops that see mixed work often do better with one press covering several capacities than with two frames. TheZD07505AQY-MJDS covers 20, 30, 40 and 50 ton on a single frame.
Never exceed the rated capacity
Use pressing plates or blocks; do not press directly on a bearing race with the ram
Keep the workpiece centred under the ram
Bleed the hydraulic system if the ram creeps under load
